Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson’s Summer of Soul has won Best Music Film at the 2022 Grammys. The film about the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival—which just won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature—won the award over films by or about Bo Burnham (Inside), David Byrne (David Byrne’s American Utopia, directed by Spike Lee), Billie Eilish (Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles), and Jimi Hendrix (Music, Money, Madness… Jimi Hendrix in Maui).

Summer of Soul won the Sundance Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award and Best Documentary at the 2022 Independent Spirit Awards. Read “Questlove on Restoring Black Music History and Making One of the Year’s Best Films.”
