Michael Jackson ONE | Backstage at the Las Vegas Strip | The World Of MJONE | Cirque du Soleil

Hi everybody.
Welcome to 'The World of' Welcome to The World of! Can you believe they
let me wear that outfit? I am so excited for this week’s
episode of The World of, because we get to celebrate the music of
the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson, in Michael Jackson ONE. Every week, we are
releasing a new episode, so don’t forget to subscribe
so you don’t miss it.

Today,
we’re gonna moonwalk. I can’t moonwalk. I’ve tried.
I can’t do it. We’re gonna moonwalk into the Mandalay Bay resort
in Las Vegas for The World of
Michael Jackson ONE. Driven by Michael’s powerful,
multilayered music – heard like never before in a riveting, state-of-the-art
surround-sound environment – ONE takes the audience
through a series of seamless visual and
musical experiences at the heart of a world
that is majestic, playful, magical
and heartwarming. In Michael Jackson
ONE, Michael’s artistry and spirit are expressed through
the vibrant energy of a cast of 63 performers
and dancers.

It is all underscored
by aerial performances, driving acrobatics as
a springboard for exploration. ONE is a heartfelt
tribute to the work, innovative spirit
and legacy of Michael Jackson –
the King of Pop, the genius, the visionary, the ONE. Now it’s time for
Fun Facts. In Michael Jackson
ONE, each of the theater’s 1804 seats
has three speakers – left, right,
center – for a total of
5412 seat speakers. Holy ***! There’s a guitar that shoots
30-foot streams of pyro – also called fire. Michael Jackson was fond
of Swarovski crystals, and we did not hold back. The Dirty Diana costume contains over
7000 crystals. The show utilizes
three stage lifts that travel from
basement to stage at a maximum speed
of 1 foot per second. I don’t know math, but that is really quick. In addition to the 28 strobe lights and 587 lighting fixtures
in the show, there are 295 custom LED panels built into the show’s
various set pieces. Speaking of LED lights, we have a guest today who knows
all about the LED lights. I think she invented
the LED light. It’s probably a lie,
[IT IS] but we’ll talk to her anyway.

Véronique from
the official geek department of Cirque du Soleil
is here. Can you tell me how do you get
from this to that? Take us through. Yes, there are about 300 lights, we choose
where to put them, and then we create
the pattern of the lights. When you send the signal
from the light console through a frequency, it receives its cue,
and then, “OK, I am going to do the blue
from top to bottom.” OK. So the recorders play back, and the data is sent
to every light. The performer doesn’t
have to worry about what their suit is doing. Exactly. And what are some of
the other fun things that you’re working on
right now? Well, we have the guts here. It’s like in the Thriller song. Oh, OK. We have zombies,
and they wear it here. Oh, right. And these
just look like a bunch of tubes and wires but from afar and on stage
and once it’s lit up, I imagine it’s quite awesome.

Ooh! So, it can flash in many ways, many patterns, and I can change
the speed of it, so. Do you have anything else
you can show me here? Yes, this one,
I like it. From far away
it’s pretty… All these lights and all of it, it brings such a new
dimension to the stage. They have other lights also, at this moment
that I don’t have… – So all of this combined…
– Yeah. It brings it to a new level. Can you put my name on it? – It will be cool, huh?
– Yeah. I’m gonna walk around… See this,
I’m gonna take this, and I’m gonna walk
around wherever I go, and I’m gonna put
my Instagram handle on it. Oh, that is so fun. Thank you so much for showing
us all of your trinkets. I’m gonna take this, because I’m definitely gonna
make this into underwear. What will you do when
the battery is dead? Oh, do you have extra batteries? Look at her! Now it’s time for one
of our favorite acts, Smooth Criminal. There we go.
You got it? Yeah,
how about that, huh? All right,
who feels like dancing with me? This is definitely a video
