Founding Depeche Mode keyboardist, bassist, and vocalist Andy Fletcher has died at 60 years old. We wish his family and friends all the best at this difficult time.
“We are shocked and filled with overwhelming sadness with the untimely passing of our dear friend, family member, and bandmate Andy ‘Fletch’ Fletcher,” said a statement posted by Depeche Mode on Twitter. “Fletch had a true heart of gold and was always there when you needed support, a lively conversation, a good laugh, or a cold pint.”
“Our hearts are with his family, and we ask that you keep them in your thoughts and respect their privacy in this difficult time.”
Fletcher and Depeche Mode certainly have a place within the metal realm, as they’ve either influenced or been covered by (or both) countless rock and metal bands over the years. And really – how many of your metal friends like Depeche Mode? Because I’m pretty willing to bet the answer is “most, if not all of ’em.”
Career-wise, Fletcher was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Depeche Mode in 2020. Fletcher wore quite a few hats with Depeche Mode both in the studio and live, and also had a career as a DJ outside the band. Thanks for everything, Andy – the music you made and the influence the band had.
